2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Canada Price and Review – There are all sorts of reasons to buy a new car. You need something reliable to go to work. You have a family to prowl around. You need to haul plywood or tow your boat to the lake. All of these are good reasons to consider something like a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Canada Price and Review
The Jeep Grand Cherokee 2019 is offered in a dozen different models, including a fast SRT variant. You can distinguish a Trackhawk from the smaller Grand Cherokee thanks to its bulky body work, yellow brake calipers and quadruple exhaust outlets at the rear. In the front, you will find cooling outlets in which the noise lights of the SRT model generally live.
The Trackhawk is the Grand Cherokee with a 6.2-liter V8 supercharged engine, which you’ll find in the Dodge Charger and the Challenger Hellcats. 707 horsepower are complemented with 645 pounds-foot torsion, and combined with an automatic 8-speed transmission, it drags this total traction SUV from over 5.300 pounds to 60 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds, on its way to a maximum speed of 180 mph.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the fastest gasoline SUV you can buy today. Of course, a Tesla Model X is a little faster in its most powerful version, but electric cars are not for everyone. And the Falcon gates are foolish.
While the Trackhawk will move happily like any other five-passenger SUV, it’s best when you’re digging deep into the accelerator. Crush the throttle and the Jeep crouches, the transmission shoots down and you advance as if you were entering a wormhole in another dimension. You can hear the supercharger’s sharp wine, accompanied by the glorious rumor of that great V8. The only thing stronger is my manic laughter.
Fortunately, the Trackhawk is not just a straight-line star. On secondary roads, the third gear keeps the engine boiling, right in the center of its torsion band between 3,500 and 5,500 rpm. Easy to brake, and the Jeep sits well on a curve, where a heavy flyer communicates what is happening where the tires meet the road.
The huge Brembo brakes provide incredible braking power, with 16-inch rotors with 6-piston front calipers, and 14-inch rotors with four-piston calipers on the back. There is a solid pedal feeling with a predictable bite point, but hitting the plugs and the back of the Jeep can be a little squirrely, even in a straight line.
The Jeep’s Sport mode is best suited for this type of driving, with its stiffer suspension configurations and reprogrammed shift mapping. There is a track mode, if you are prepared for it, but it makes driving quality a bit too hard for public roads. Automatic, snow and tow modes are also offered for daily driving situations, bad weather or when you need to put the Grand Cherokee to work.
Other high-performance SUV’s like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the BMW X5 M are a little more stylish, but they are also much more expensive. The Jeep cannot handle winding roads with the same child of delicacy, but I still entertain you every day.
Just remember, all that high-powered goodness has a huge fuel expense. The EPA classifies the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk at 11 miles per gallon of city, 17 mpg on the road and 13 mpg combined, but it exploits all that power in every green light as I did and you’ll see poor numbers. My average after a week? Only 10.6 mpg.
And although the name of Jeep is synonymous with credibility off the road, it’s not what this Grand Cherokee is for. With 20-inch rims on the Pirelli P Zero tyres in the 295/45 series, this is made for asphalt only.
Tons of standard technology
Onboard technology is high, with a standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen entertainment system, complete with Apple display, Android Auto and 4g LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The Trackhawk Uconnect instance also receives performance pages, where I can control G forces and performance data, and set parameters for the launch control. Two USB ports on the front are joined by two more for the rear seat passengers, and there is a 12 volt output on the center console to power other devices.
The driver supports are abundant, standard and customizable. Lane maintenance assistance can be configured for early, middle, or late intervention, and management assistance also has the same three settings. Similarly, blind spot monitoring can be configured to give an audio or visual warning, or both. You probably just want to keep it in the visual settings, because the hearing alert is quite high.
Adaptive cruise control is standard and can stop the big Trackhawk for a few seconds. After a simple touch of the accelerator or the click of the “Resume” button, the Jeep is lifted and reworked.
The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk 2019 starts at $86.650, but can quickly rise to a six-figure price. The tester you see here comes in a few hundred dollars below the high figure of $100.000. That’s a lot of money, of course.
I would try to keep the price a little by eliminating the panoramic solar ceiling of $2.095. It’s expensive, and I really don’t need it. The red leather is good, but it’s also a lot of money ($4.995) and forces me to add a $2.095 audio system as well. Spend.
Instead, I’ll just get the $995 tow package. Since the Trackhawk is rated to tow 7.200 pounds, that makes it quite capable of transporting. I’ll also add $895 for three-season sticky tires. This keeps my dream Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in $90.035, including $1.495 per destination.
Irrational and impressive
It’s hard to find an SUV that’s so crazy at a more economical price. The BMW X5 M costs more than $100.000 from the first moment, and adds another $8.000 more or less if you want a Mercedes-AMG GLE63. A Range Rover Sport SVR is another great option, but again, you are looking for $113.900 to start.
Perhaps the strongest argument against the Trackhawk is the already wonderful Grand Cherokee SRT. With 475 horsepower, it is still pretty fast and starts at $68.145, a total of $18.505 less than the Trackhawk.
Actually, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the answer to a question no one asked. It’s exaggerated, noisy, shameless and totally unnecessary. But it’s also exactly why I love it.
